Fisherman's Village Arts and Crafts Show Part Deux

Today we headed to Fisherman's Village for an Arts and Crafts Show. Last time we came here, I looked at the sculptures of Jonathan Kioko, and fell in love with them. However I couldn't decide at the time between the warthog, wildebeest or cheetah. So I wound up not buying anything, but I haven't forgotten Kioko's work and have been hoping for a chance to see him again. (BTW: I Googled him tonight and found that he is mentioned and quoted in a paper called Aesthetic illusion: theoretical and historical approaches from a conference in 1989.)

So we headed to the show today in hopes of seeing Kioko there again, and this time purchase some of his work, and I got lucky-- indeed he was in attendance. And better yet-- this time there was no wildebeest or cheetah to feed my indecisiveness. So I walked away with a warthog carved out of teak.

I also fell in love with a small zebra mask, and chose a giraffe mask to go along with it.

These will probably go in my library, which I expect to be African influenced. I also fell in love with a hippo carved from stone, but had already spent so much money that I walked away. Not to mention, it weighed a ton, and I didn't feel like carrying it around with me!

We ran to the Village Fish Market for lunch. Ironically enough, they sat us at the same table as last time.

And I ordered their awesome sweet potato french fries with cinnamon/brown sugar/butter dipping sauce.
For my entree, I had to find something to suit my new pescatarian diet. Did I mention that I've been pescatarian for nearly a month now? So I decided to go with the "bronzed" (lightly blackened) grouper with coleslaw and veggies.

Not half bad. And on the way out, I had to stop by Kioko's booth and go ahead and get the hippo.

I love the rolls of fat, and the colors of the stone (which Kioko said changes color about every 2 feet as it is mined out of the ground.) I also love the silky-smooth feel of the polished surface of the hippo. Rubbing your hand across its surface is very therapeutic.

So that was our afternoon at Fisherman's Village, followed by attending the movie Iron Man 2 (fun movie!). How is your weekend going so far?
