Orlando Day Two

Day Two began as any other conference. Up at 5 AM (after not getting to bed until after 1 AM). I got ready and headed out to arrive at the conference around 6:30-6:45 AM.

When we walked outside, we found Florida experiencing one of its rare freezes and frosty cold.

The windows had to be scraped of ice before we could leave.

We arrived at the Contemporary hotel and setup. Then we were served breakfast.

That chocolate muffin was AWESOME!

The conference has a CyberCafe setup for use of the attendees, but it is useless to me.

It doesn't allow me to use ActiveX, which I need in order to remote into my work computer and get anything done. So I have to wait until I get back to my hotel at night to do any work.

Late morning I found a few moments to venture outside and get some shots of the surrounding area. I'm not sure what this is. Epcot maybe?
Photobucket

I've never been to Epcot, so I don't remember what the building looks like.

I think that this is the castle spire, isn't it?

This is the Contemporary hotel where the tram passes through.

There is some resort across the way.

The courtyard in front of the convention center is really nice, with the brick work and benches and trees.

Here are a couple of videos taken outside the hotel:

The entrance lobby in the convention center is really nice, too. I just LOVED the geometry of this room. VERY appealing to me and aesthetically fascinating.

And there is a neat area heading out of the conference center and towards the rest of the hotel that I liked the look of.

We got out of there for the day around 4:30 PM, exhausted and ready for a nap. On the drive out, we pass by this "ad" for a ride. It looks really cool every time I see it. Looks like a ride car full of people hanging askew.

Last night we decided to go to BB King's for dinner and music.

Unfortunately there was a private party going on, so we didn't get to dine there. We walked around looking for another spot to eat around Wonderworks.

I love Wonderworks!

I also loved this little courtyard near BB King's.

We wound up deciding to eat at the Redrock Canyon Grill.

We were led in by the fire outside.

I loved the entree on the menu called "Cluck n Oink".

The two men I was with wound up ordering that, while I got the Rotissiere Chicken.

Mmmmmmmm Good! The roast green beans were my favorite. We actually got served our dinners probably within 5-10 minutes of ordering, despite the fact that they were packed.

It was a nice night, and I got back to my room probably around 10:30 PM. I wound up not getting to sleep until probably about 12:30 AM. Up again this morn at 5 AM.

So now is my time to gripe. My room at this Radisson has a toilet that runs all night, and to flush it you have to hold the handle down for the entire, long, slow flush. Seems the flapper and/or chain needs to be replaced. I reported it the first night here, and it was supposed to be fixed while I was out for a few hours. When I returned I found the toilet lid down and figured it must have been fixed, but soon found nothing seemed to be done. It still continues.

The door looks as if someone has tried breaking in here at some point. The door gaps open at the top and around the deadbolt.

Gaping door

The frig is kept contained in a cabinet. There is no way to tell which side of the frig door you open. I grabbed the right corner and tried to pull open the door, and the whole frig came towards me. So then I was left with a frig sitting lopsided in the cabinet, with the right-side sticking out slightly, the left side blocked and unable to open, and the frig too heavy to move back into position.

Then there's the room heater. It is installed in a little "cubby", but it was installed too far to the right.
Stupid heater

So the panel will not lift up all the way, so you have a hard time seeing the dials, or reaching your hand in to turn the dials on and off. Idiots.

That was Day Two in Orlando. Jeez, I'm tired.
